# Network

### When do I need to configure the Network?

Your energy storage system is usually connected to the Network during installation. But in the following two cases, you may need to do it manually:

* **The Device shows "Offline"**: when the connection is interrupted due to signal interference or a power outage, the home page status will show as **Offline**(shown when only some of multiple Devices go Offline) **Partially Online**), and an Offline prompt bar appears on the home page at the same time; tap the **Reconnect** to reconfigure the Network.

{% hint style="info" %}
**When only one Device is offline**, the prompt bar shows **Device Offline**, tap **Reconnect** to enter the setup wizard directly.

**When multiple Devices are offline**, the prompt bar shows **Multiple Devices Offline**, tap **Reconnect** Go to **Offline Device** list first, then tap the target Device's **Reconnect**, in the popped-up **Reconfigure Network** instruction box tap **Configure** to enter the wizard.
{% endhint %}

* **Home Network Change**: when you've changed to a new router or changed the WiFi name or password, you can reconfigure the Network in **Settings → Device → Network → Wi-Fi Settings** .

### Before You Start

Before configuring WiFi, please confirm the following preparations:

* The communication Module is installed, and the Module power indicator is on
* Know the name and password of your home WiFi Network
* Bluetooth and WiFi on the phone are enabled, and location permission has been granted (required when Android scans WiFi)
* The phone is within 5 meters of the Device
* The phone can access the Internet normally (the App needs to communicate with the cloud platform during configuration)

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note**: most communication Modules only support WiFi Networks on the 2.4 GHz band, and do not support the 5 GHz band. Please confirm that your router has 2.4 GHz Network enabled.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Before entering the wizard, the App will check Bluetooth, location permission, and the WiFi switch. If any of them are not ready, it will first prompt you to enable it before you can enter the configuration page.
{% endhint %}

### Configuration Steps

> The setup wizard has three steps:**Device** → **Wi-Fi Settings** → **Done**.

#### Step 1: Connect the Device

1. The page will display the Device model and serial number; please verify that they match the label on the Device body.
2. Check the three preparation items listed on the page:
   * **Get close to the Device**: staying within a few meters is best
   * **Power on the Device**: make sure the Device is powered on and the indicator light is on
   * **Prepare Wi-Fi information**: you need the name and password of your home Wi-Fi
3. Tap **Connect**, and the App will automatically complete the connection with the Device without you manually selecting a hotspot or entering a password.

{% hint style="info" %}
**How does the App connect to the Device**: the App will first connect to the communication Module via **Bluetooth** If no Bluetooth signal is found, it will automatically switch to connecting to the Device hotspot. When using the Device hotspot, the Android system will pop up a confirmation dialog asking whether to connect to this Network; please tap **Connect**(tapping "Cancel" will interrupt the configuration and require you to tap again **Connect**); the phone will temporarily switch to the Device hotspot and be unable to access the Internet for the time being; it will automatically restore after configuration is complete.
{% endhint %}

#### Step 2: Connect Home WiFi

1. The page will list nearby WiFi Networks detected by the Device. If it shows **No data found**, tap **Retry** Search again.
2. Select your**home WiFi**and enter the WiFi password in the password box that pops up, then tap the **✓** in the upper-right corner to confirm.
3. Wait for the configuration to be delivered, which takes up to about 60 seconds.

**Step 3: Finish**

1. Tap **Done** Exit Wizard at the bottom. If this configuration was done via the Device hotspot, the App will disconnect from the hotspot at the same time, and the phone will automatically return to the original Network.
2. Return to the home page to check the Device status; showing **Normal** means the configuration was successful.

After configuration is complete, you can view real-time power data on the App home page.

#### View Network information

On **Settings → Device → Network** page, you can view the current connection status:

| Item                                        | Description                                                                                             |
| ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Communication Module** | Display **Connected** or **Disconnected** |
| **Network type**                            | **WLAN**(wireless),**LAN**(wired) or **WLAN & LAN**                                                     |
| **Software version** / **Hardware version** | The version information of the communication Module may be required when contacting after-sales support |

{% hint style="info" %}
If **Network type** shown as **LAN** and the Device is online, it means the Device is connected via Ethernet cable and no WiFi configuration is required.
{% endhint %}

### FAQ

**The page prompts "Unable to connect to XXX"**

This indicates that the App tried to connect automatically but failed. A common reason is that the Device is not powered on or the communication Module needs to be restarted. The page will directly provide the steps to resolve it:

1. **Unplug the Wi-Fi Module from the Device**
2. **Wait 5 seconds**
3. **Plug it back in firmly**

After finishing, tap **Retry**.

***

**The communication Module hotspot password has been changed and cannot be connected automatically**

If the hotspot password of the communication Module has been changed, all passwords automatically tried by the App will fail.

**Solution:**

1. On **Unable to connect to XXX** at the bottom of the page, tap **Changed the Device's Wi-Fi password?** under **Enter hotspot password**.
2. Enter the currently valid hotspot password, then tap the upper-right corner **✓** in the upper-right corner to confirm.

If you no longer remember the password:

1. Tap **Forgot password?**.
2. The App will scan nearby Bluetooth Devices and tap connect after finding the communication Module.
3. Reset the hotspot password via Bluetooth, then return to the wizard to continue configuration.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note**: resetting the password requires the phone Bluetooth to remain on and the distance to the communication Module to be within 5 meters.**Forgot password?** This entry appears only when the communication Module supports reset; if your Device does not support it, please contact AlphaESS after-sales service for support.
{% endhint %}

***

**Prompt "Connection failed"**

* **Connection failed after entering the home WiFi password**: the App will automatically pop up the password entry box for that Network again. Please confirm the password and re-enter it. If you want to switch to another Network, go back to the list and select again.
* **Connection failed after entering the hotspot password**: the password may be incorrect, or the Device may not be powered on. Please confirm the Device status and try again.

***

**I can't find my home WiFi**

Please confirm that the router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled. If the router uses "dual-band integration" (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz share the same name), please confirm that 2.4 GHz is not turned off. If you still can't find it, please contact AlphaESS after-sales service for support.

***

**How to reconfigure after changing routers or modifying the WiFi password**

Enter **Settings → Device → Network → Wi-Fi Settings**, and reconfigure according to the steps above. Existing Device data and historical records will not be affected.

***

**There is no available home Network on site yet**

You can first complete account registration and Device binding (binding does not require the Device to be online), and exit the configuration wizard. It is normal for the home page to show an Offline prompt bar at this time. Once the Network is ready, re-enter configuration from the home page prompt bar or the Device Network page.

***

**Still unable to complete Network setup after multiple attempts**

Please confirm the following in order:

1. The communication Module power indicator is lit normally
2. Bluetooth and WiFi on the phone are enabled, and the distance to the Device is within 5 meters
3. The home WiFi Network is normal, and the 2.4 GHz band is enabled
4. Restart the router and try again

{% hint style="info" %}
If the problem is still not resolved, you can tap **Having issues?** below **Contact Customer Service**or contact AlphaESS after-sales service directly for support.
